The world that I believe in
I entered politics not to become the stereotypical “politician”, but to be the voice of ordinary people.
I believe in a world where people lead happy lives. Here’s how this looks to me:
If we’re in work, we should receive fair pay and good working conditions. We should be able to pay our housing bills, our energy bills, fill up our cars with fuel, buy a week’s worth of shopping and still have some money left over to save, or spend on day trips, nights out or holidays away once a year. This really isn’t too much to ask.
Children should only have to worry about being children. There should be no burden on children to worry about bills, school meals, school uniform etc.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the reality facing the majority of people in the UK right now. This won’t be the reality facing the majority of people in the UK in the very near future. Life has been, and will be, extremely tough.
We need to see support for the majority of us. If we’re not in work, we need to see support from the UK Government. If we’re in work, we need to see support from the UK Government.
The welfare system should be used only as a safety net or to bolster low wages, not an only source of income.
This isn’t about party politics. This is just about doing the right thing. I’m not convinced Liz Truss believes what we believe. But, if she does, then I plead to her to do the right thing, step in and step up for families across the UK before it really is too late.
